Is Katy Perry pulling a Lily Allen while sharing new man Justin Trudeau with “not not gay” ex Diplo?
She will stop at nothing to make her new era happen

After making the flop to end all flops with last year’s 143, Katy Perry is somehow back and teasing yet another era. And this time, it’s personal. At least, we hope it’s about to get personal.
Perry, fresh off her separation from Orlando Bloom, recently hard launched her relationship with her new man Justin Trudeau and is revving up for what could be a true comeback.
If Perry pulls a Lily Allen and makes her next project a tell-all divorce diary, we could be in for some actually good music from the diva who hasn’t had a hit since Obama was in office.
How about we take this to the next level?

Yesterday, Perry uploaded an uncharacteristically unglamorous photo to her Instagram with the announcement of her new single, “Bandaids,” dropping later this week. If the promo image is giving what we think it’s giving, this project could be part of a redemption arc and a return to the slightly messier, more authentic persona of her breakout years.
That said, we don’t have any real evidence that this is the direction Perry is moving in. After being seen with out and about for months with the former Canadian PM, Perry recently confirmed that the two are going strong. And weirdly enough, no sooner did she hard launch with Trudeau than her “not not gay” ex, Diplo, tried to steal the spotlight by reminding the world that he dated Perry—and then joking that he also dated Trudeau on the “Smart Girl Dumb Questions” podcast.
To make matters even weirder, Diplo then posted a clearly AI-generated Instagram photo of himself mugging next to Trudeau while a blurry Katy Perry lingered in the background.
Knowing that Diplo is the King of the confusing coming-out arc, it’s hard not to see this as part of a larger effort to humanize Perry—something she’s been trying to do with her press campaigns for years, with zero results.

The DJ and music producer made headlines last week after he was spotted bumping and grinding alongside a sea of sweaty shirtless men at a gay warehouse party in Los Angeles.
The difference here? Perhaps Perry, seeing the success her fellow MySpace era pop girly Lily Allen is experiencing with “West End Girl,” is finally understanding that fans don’t want a performance of authenticity: they want the real thing. Rather than going on talk shows and chain-eating chicken nuggets, all the people want is a hint of relationship mess, accompanied by a no-skips album dishing on all the dirt her ex put her through.
So far, Perry has stayed mostly silent about the split from Bloom, but we know that it was likely acrimonious. After Perry’s Blue Origin stunt last year, Bloom went on record saying he thought the short trip to space was “ridiculous,” which…yeah girl, we all felt that way.
Shortly after Bloom’s statement made headlines, the couple broke up for real, and we haven’t heard much about it. But perhaps with the new “Bandaids” era, we’re about to. And if that’s the case…girl, we’re seated.
Perry has usually kept details about her exes pretty close to the vest, but after Lily Allen’s career-reviving album, it’s possible that even the most NDA-happy artists are reconsidering their commitment to keeping things calm and collected. If that’s the case, the “Bandaids” era is going to be a good thing for they gays. If it’s not, it’s going to be another extension of her seemingly never-ending flop era.
