Jason Collins’ recent health story has been filled with a whirlwind of emotions for both him and the people who care about him, but the former NBA player finally has some positive news for those following along.

Collins announced he was battling brain cancer in December 2025 in an interview with ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne. The cancer is a stage 4 glioblastoma and has forced Collins to pursue alternative forms of cancer treatment that aren’t available in the United States.

Just a little over a month after the interview with Shelburne, Collins posted a video last night to his Instagram, providing some optimism for his future.

Collins talks in the video about how he is living in Singapore currently, so he can get the most advanced treatments for his cancer.

“Everything is going well here in Singapore,” he said to start the video.

He underwent chemotherapy and radiation from September through November at UCLA in Los Angeles, California. When those treatments had done all they could, that is when Collins decided to pursue a company called EnGeneIC, which is creating trials that aren’t approved in the U.S. at this time.

EnGeneIC is an Australian company that is providing Collins with EDV (EnGeneIC Dream Vectors). This treatment aggressively targets the site of the tumors without attacking any other parts of the body. This could potentially make it more effective than traditional chemotherapy and radiation techniques.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for Collins was a scan that showed dead cells, meaning the treatments are allowing for incredible progress.

Collins says that he is headed back to the United States next week to attend a conference in New York to talk about what he and his family say is this potentially life-saving treatment.

Jason Collins is one of the biggest revolutionaries in LGBTQ sports history and was Outsports’ Male Hero of the Year in 2025. He remains the only NBA player to come out as gay while still a player in the league. He played a portion of a season with the Brooklyn Nets after coming out and retired in 2014.

Even after he came out, for the last decade he’s been an incredible champion for gay people in the NBA and for the LGBTQ community in general.

Here’s hoping for more positive updates for Collins and many more decades of a life so well lived, inspiring others and living his truth fearlessly. No matter what gets thrown his way, this man always seems to fight for the very best of what it means to be human.
