A back-to-nature men’s campground in Arkansas has reopened after splashing $100,000 on essential renovations and refurbishment work.

Boar’s Rut Men’s Campground is located just outside Camden in Southern Arkansas. It’s about an hour and 45 minutes drive south of Little Rock. The location is nestled amidst pine forests and rivers. It offers a private and laid-back escape from day-to-day life.

Founded by Camden firefighter Derek Hendricks, 27, Boar’s Rut launched in 2023. It reopens for bookings from April 1, following a 10-month closure for infrastructure work. This was prompted by a Health Department closure last summer and was mainly due to issues with the plumbing and wastewater systems.

These have now been rectified, along with electrical upgrades and other site improvements.

Watch Hendricks and some of his volunteers nervously awaiting their reinspection below!

In fact, Boar’s Rut has gained 55k followers on Instagram with its photos and videos, many of which have shared the upgrade work as it progressed.

“This setback forced us to rebuild everything the right way,” Hendricks said in a press statement. “Without the support of Camden locals and volunteers from across the country, this would have been impossible.”

Hendricks says around half his visitors come from outside Arkansas. He believes his business boosts the local economy.

“When our guests come in from Louisiana or Texas, they’re filling up gas in Camden, eating at local restaurants, buying supplies. And we’ve put more than $100,000 back into this community just getting the doors back open,” he said.

On Google, many have praised the campground for its friendliness.

“Just finished a Great weekend with BEARS!” said one visitor last year. “So much fun. Loved that everyone was so friendly. The hot tub felt so good after a day of playing. The new pool was great for cooling off during the day. The entire area was so pretty with all the trees and hills. Since I am from flat Oklahoma, this area blew my mind!”

“Recently had my first camping experience here and I absolutely loved it!” said another visitor. “My partner and I stayed here Memorial Day weekend, and although it was a smaller crowd, it was a nice, fun, relaxing trip in a serene wooded area. A drive of any duration shows how beautiful the area is due to lush trees and a more secluded environment.”
