Milan restocks Olympic condoms as black-market prices hit $100

Condoms are in high demand at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, with organizers bringing in more and prices rising. The post Milan restocks Olympic condoms as black-market prices hit $100 appeared first on Outsports.

Olympic condoms are as popular as ever at the Milan Winter Olympics — and around the world, apparently.

It’s always a story at any Olympics, the number of condoms shipped into the Olympic Village. At the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, with about 10,000 athletes, Summer Games organizers ordered 300,000 condoms. Yes, 30 condoms per athlete.

This time around, as Outsports has previously reported, 10,000 condoms were ready for the 2,800 athletes competing in these Winter Games, all ready for everyone to have as much fun as they can handle.

In just a few days, the condom supply couldn’t handle it as they already ran out.

“10,000 were used for 2,800 athletes, you can do the maths,” IOC spokesperson Mark Adams reportedly said. “This clearly shows that Valentine’s Day is in full swing in the village!”

Chances are slim that, with the competition of their life-long dream ahead of them, athletes suddenly started having massive “parties” (which have been reported at past Olympics) in the first couple days of these Games. Rather, it’s likely they’ve been grabbing some for later use. They hope.

Even if some of the athletes were quickly stockpiling for when their events are over, Games organizers have brought in another 5,000 condoms for the Olympic Village, with more on hand if need be.

Are the gays to blame for Olympics condoms disappearance?

So how many condoms are the gay and bi athletes using with one another? With the spread of PrEP, which dramatically decreases the chance of contracting HIV, condom use among gay men is way down.

While there are certainly more gay and bi men than the about dozen we know of at these Olympics, don’t blame the condom disappearance on the gays, except for Adam Rippon snagging some for friends.

Plus, there’s the Olympics condoms “black market” that’s apparently arisen online.

Reports from publications like The Mirror say the Milan Winter Olympics condoms have become a collectors item worldwide, with some sellers asking for over $100 for some condoms.

If you’re an Olympics fan, what more could you want than a box of condoms with the Milano-Cortina logo on it? OK, maybe an Olympic medal, but the box of condoms is going to be much cheaper.
