The Cincinnati Enquirer reports:

Gov. Mike DeWine decided that state lawmakers went too far in the culture war against LGBTQ Ohioans and issued three key vetoes. But he allowed other measures opposed by the LGBTQ community to go into law. DeWine used his veto pen to reject blocking money for youth shelters that use the preferred pronouns of transgender kids. “We want homeless shelters to be open for everyone. That’s kind of it,” he said.

He also heeded calls from Ohio’s public library systems and vetoed a provision to require materials covering sexual orientation or gender identity to be kept in the adult section, out of sight for children. “As parents or grandparents, no one wants their child to have a book or something that is inappropriate, something that is obscene,” the governor said on July 1. “But I just felt that the language did not work.”

The governor also said no to a provision that would limit which flags can fly on state properties to the American flag, Ohio flag, the POW/MIA flag and flags of official state agencies. Pride flags would’ve been prohibited.
