Oops! DoorDash does damage control after catastrophic Tr*mp stunt, but it’s too late
You live, you learn

This week, the delivery app DoorDash pissed a whole lot of people off with a publicity stunt. Today, they’re busy doing damage control—but it’s a case of way too little, far too late.
To celebrate his (pathetic, limited) “no tips on taxes” initiative tucked inside the “Big Beautiful Bill,” Tr*mp had the viral “DoorDash Grandma” Sharon Simmons show up to the White House bearing burgers and a surprising amount of reticence toward the would-be King. “Most deliveries don’t end at the White House,” the DoorDash X account proudly proclaimed, “This one did!”
Sadly for DoorDash, it didn’t do the delivery app any favors.

Despite Tr*mp asking Simmons her stance on trans athletes in school sports—which she had no opinion about—and trying to get Simmons to say she voted for him (she definitely didn’t) the whole thing bellyflopped instantly. Now, everyone’s cringing at DoorDash’s decision to align with a president whose underwater approval ratings represent a 21st century low.
“The PR guy at DoorDash is having a bit of a crashout,” reported MeidasTouch founder Brett Meiselas yesterday, as DoorDash staffer Julian Crowley desperately tried to stanch the bleeding from hundreds of cancelled accounts.
Despite admitting that the entire thing was a PR stunt and Simmons was coached on how to answer the bizarre questions asked by Tr*mp, it seems Simmons went rogue by refusing to kowtow to his anti-trans talking points.
So basically the entire stunt was for nothing, and now DoorDash is hemorrhaging subscribers. Whoops!
But it gets even worse for the formerly thriving company: now that other brands are getting a whiff of just how toxic it is to collaborate with Tr*mp’s White House, they’re dragging DoorDash by the short hairs in response.
HelloFresh, the meal kit company, quickly entered the chat to dunk on their competitor and remind everyone that any branded opportunity with Tr*mp is probably not going to do you a lot of favors.
UberEats, meanwhile, stays giving the people what they really want: foot content!
And Postmates is staying true to its California roots by feeding the masses at Coachella…
Elsewhere, the DoorDash boycott is going swimmingly. Users are still calling out the delivery service a full day after the PR stunt for getting in bed with the failing Tr*mp administration, as well as posting screenshots of deleting the DoorDash app from their phones.
Even Marjorie Taylor Greene has words for the architects of the tone-deaf stunt. “The value of a dollar is so low that senior citizens have to Door Dash to scrape by,” she wrote on X, “but billionaires are always unaffected.” Former congressman Adam Kinzinger also stepped in to ask: “Why did you think this was smart to do”
“Most deliveries don’t start a boycott,” another account joked. “This one did!”
“I use doordash soooo much,” one commenter wrote. “Like multiple times a week. Canceled it just now.”
Even Dashers who use the app to make extra cash are jumping ship. Luckily for everyone, there are plenty of other delivery services to choose from—not to mention using a local restaurant’s own delivery option.
Will DoorDash bounce back from this L? Who can say. On Reddit, one summed up the situation with one perfect phrase: “Make affiliations with the president shameful again.”
