Out wrestler Hunter Gallagher goes viral for the best of reasons

Out, professional wrestler Hunter Gallagher saw a tweet go viral recently. It was one of his clapbacks at someone online.

Gallagher travels around the US and operates within several different leagues, including Alliance For All Wrestling (AFA), Lucha VaVoom (DeLa Liz), Millennium Pro Wrestling, and Texas Wrestling Cartel. He’s based in Los Angeles.

The 5’7″ pocket dynamo is known for his flamboyant outfits and style. On X, someone shared one of his TikTok videos and asked, “Who’s this diva??” The tweet received over 43 K likes.

They probably weren’t expecting Hunter to respond, offering a simple, “Hey thanks for the love.” Gallagher’s response racked up over 100 K likes and introduced him to a whole new army of fans.

Gallagher grew up in a working-class town in Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border, and was often taunted by his male classmates. However, when he first saw women wrestlers on WWE, it offered him an escape.

“As soon as I saw women wrestlers, I thought ‘OK, well damn! If they’re so feminine and they kick a**, why can’t I?,’” he later said.

He’s been wrestling professionally on the independent circuit since 2020, after training under the mentorship of former WWE icon Rikishi Fatu. Gallagher’s signature move is called the “bottoms up.” It involves him bashing his rear into the face of an opponent.

“Audiences connect with things that break the status quo”

Earlier this year, he told Queerty he loved wrestling because he finds it liberating.

“I really get to express myself, and just be whoever I want, which is really just me to a ‘10’.”

Queerty reached out to ask him about his recent viral clapback.

“This is the third or fourth time I’ve gone viral for wrestling,” he replied. “Part of me is surprised, but another part of me understands that audiences connect with things that break the status quo. Seeing someone my height, maybe not the tallest, but physically built and confident in their femininity as a man, creates a kind of energy I think people are intrigued by.

“I think that mix of attitude, strength, softness and confidence catches people off guard. I don’t think people expect to see a gay man professionally wrestle or move the way I do.”
