RuPaul Goes Full Commander-in-Chic in ‘Stop That Train!’ Trailer Packed With Drag Race Icons
RuPaul leads a hilarious, campy train rescue with Drag Race royalty in “Stop That Train!”
A high-speed train, a looming disaster and a cast stacked with show stopping drag queens, “Stop That Train!” is leaning all the way into chaos. The first trailer for the action-comedy, released by Bleecker Street and World of Wonder, sets the tone early: this is a camp spectacle that knows exactly what it’s doing.
Directed by Adam Shankman, the film centers on a crisis barreling toward Los Angeles, with none other than RuPaul stepping in as President Gagwell. Yes, the commander-in-chief is in full glam (and ready to serve looks as well as the country). From Coach to Crisis Mode
The story follows best friends Tess and DeeDee, played by Ginger Minj and Jujubee. The pair are stuck working less-than-thrilling shifts on a train dubbed the Stank Rail before landing a gig aboard the far more glamorous Glamazonian Express.
Their upgrade doesn’t last long. A massive weather event, dubbed “Stormaganza,” threatens to send the speeding train off course and straight into disaster. Suddenly, the job shifts from customer service to survival.
To keep things from going off the rails entirely, Tess and DeeDee are forced to team up with the first-class crew, including characters played by Symone, Brooke Lynn Hytes and Marcia Marcia Marcia. The dynamic is exactly what you’d expect, equal parts tension, shade and reluctant teamwork. A Trailer That Knows the Assignment
The preview wastes no time delivering its tone. When President Gagwell demands a situation update, she’s told the Glamazonian Express is heading into a massive storm. Her response, “Tell it to me gay,” sets the tone for the camp and satire that’s about to unfold.
From there, passengers panic and the crew attempts to maintain calm with increasingly futile announcements. It’s disaster movie pacing with a wink.
Matt Rogers, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rachel Bloom, Lisa Rinna and Nicole Richie round out the ensemble, each appearing to lean into the film’s self-aware humor.
One standout moment features Gellar playing herself. In the middle of the chaos, she’s confronted not by a fan, but by a passenger telling her she’s in the wrong seat and that he paid to be next to the window (we are in for a silly treat). Drag, Disaster and a Big-Screen Swing
“Stop That Train!” brings together a mix of reality TV icons, comedy veterans and mainstream stars, anchored by a concept that feels tailor-made for audiences who appreciate high camp. The involvement of World of Wonder, the force behind the Drag Race franchise, signals a clear connection to that fanbase, but the film aims for broader appeal with its action-comedy framing.
Behind the scenes, the project is written by Connor Wright and Christina Friel, with producing credits that include RuPaul Charles alongside longtime collaborators Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato.
Filmed in Los Angeles, the movie keeps its setting close to home, at least until the train threatens to turn that destination into a crash site. Release Date
“Stop That Train!” is set to arrive in theaters on June 12, positioning itself as a summer entry that blends spectacle with satire. If the trailer is any indication, audiences can expect a ride that’s less about subtlety and more about going full throttle on humor, references and drag excellence.
All aboard… just don’t expect a smooth trip.
