Start your engines, Drag Race fans!
On 28 December, BBC Three announced that Drag Race UK vs the World is set to return to our screens for a highly anticipated second season.
Like its first entry, the new batch of episodes will see queens from the UK series go up against some of the best performers from other global editions of the franchise, including the original US version as well as Canada’s.
However, this time around, the lucky winner who secures the title of ‘Queen of the Mothertucking World’ will also receive a cash prize – a first for the UK series.
Mama Ru, Michelle Visage, Graham Norton, and Alan Carr will all be returning to the judges’ panel alongside a sleuth of superstar guest judges – which will be revealed at a later date.
As of this writing, the cast of Drag Race UK vs the World season two has yet to be announced.
In a statement to the BBC, Ru expressed excitement for the new season, describing it as “magical.”
“It is my honour to present the second sickening instalment of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs the World. When queens of this calibre come together, something truly magical happens. I can’t wait to share the international love with audiences in the UK and around the globe,” the Emmy winner said.
Fiona Campbell, Controller of Youth Audience (BBC iPlayer & BBC Three), echoed similar sentiments in a separate statement.
“We’re thrilled to announce the highly anticipated return of Drag Race UK vs the World for a second series on BBC Three! Get ready for more fierce competition, dazzling performances, and a celebration of Drag excellence from queens around the globe,” she said.
“It’s going to be an unforgettable journey that pushes the boundaries of creativity and charisma. Tune in for a season that promises to be bigger, bolder, and more fabulous than ever.”
Back in 2022, fans were treated to the first season of Drag Race UK vs the World – which featured Lemon, Cheryl Hole, Jimbo, Pangina Heals, Janey Jacké, Baga Chipz, Blu Hydrangea, Jujubee and Mo Heart as contestants.
After competing in a variety of challenges, runways, and an epic final lip-sync smackdown against Mo, Blu was named the first ‘Queen of the Mothertucking World.’
She also made herstory as the first ever Irish queen to win a season of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Drag Race UK vs the World season two is set to premiere in early 2024 on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer.
