Lauren Betts is a national champion a year after her big drag debut on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Betts is the star center of the UCLA Bruins women’s basketball team who helped lead UCLA to the Women’s March Madness National Championship, beating the South Carolina Gamecocks in the final, 79-51 in an absolute blowout.

In the final, Betts led the Bruins in blocked shots and rebounds, adding 11 points on offense. Betts was named the Most Outstanding Player of the entire March Madness tournament.

UCLA is led by head coach Cori Close, who has her own gay following.

In Drag Race All Stars 10, Betts was one of six women’s college basketball players to join the show in episode 3, “Hoops Queen Makeovers.” After RuPaul made a ridiculous show of missing a layup with a pink basketball, the six all stars got to work, each transforming one of the players.

Betts was teamed up with Bosco, a drag queen based in Seattle who finished third in Season 14 of “Drag Race.” The transformation of Betts earned her the drag name “Goddess,” and for good reason.

Together the duo finished in second place that episode, with Bosco going on to finish third overall for the season.

Lauren Betts headed to the WNBA Draft

Ahead of Lauren Betts is the WNBA Draft. Her play this season has landed her as a likely first-round pick.

Jack Maloney of CBS Sports said her performance in March Madness, and UCLA winning the National Championship, may have landed her in the top five of the WNBA Draft. Given her Most Outstanding Player award for the tournament, you can understand why.

USA Today predicted Betts will now be selected second overall in the Draft.

Last year’s MOP — Azzi Fudd of UConn — is also projected to be selected in the top five.

The 2026 WNBA Draft takes place in New York City on Monday, April 13. It will be broadcast live on ESPN, with coverage starting at 7:30pmET.
