Partners Tuc Watkins and Andrew Rannells hit Napa Valley last week. The couple visited the region ostensibly because Rannells, 47, was booked to sing as part of the 2025 Broadway & Vine season. However, it also happened to fall just before Watkins’ 59th birthday – providing a nice excuse for a birthday escape.

Broadway and Vine is a nonprofit that pairs “the best of Broadway with the best of wine country.”

Alongside established performers, it also showcases young, rising talent, providing “performance opportunities, college audition preparation, masterclasses,” and mentorship for “Broadway’s next generation of young professionals.”

Previous Broadway and Vine performers have included Ariana DeBose, Alan Cumming and Darren Criss.

Rannells performed on August 28th at the Brindare Vineyards.

He posted a photo to Instagram, saying, “Napa was a real treat! Jacob Langfelder and Broadway and Vine, thank you for inviting me to Napa. Thank you to all the folks who came out to see me yell my face off. (It felt very good to sing like that again. It’s been a minute!) And thank you to Chef Thomas Keller for being such a generous host. Jason, Tuc and I had a fantastic time. We’ll see you again soon!”

Upcoming Broadway and Vine events include Bradley Gibson (Hercules, The Lion King), performing at the Peju Winery on October 13. Ana Gasteyer (Wicked, Once Upon A Mattress) will bring the 2025 season to a close at the Inglenook on October 23.

“Crushing over my guy”

On his own Instagram, Tuc Watkins posted a carousel of photos from his weekend.

“I spent my birthday weekend crushing over my guy singing in a Napa vineyard, rubbing elbows with @chefthomaskeller @TheFrenchLaundry, receiving an ORANGE apron from my kids, and an original oil painting of my favorite KC burger joint from ASR! Thank you to everyone who sent me a birthday wish. You will each be receiving a $1000 gift card to my happy place, Costco™, where the frugal indulge!”

Rannells and Watkins have been in a relationship since 2019. They met a year before this when they played alongside each other in the Broadway production of The Boys In The Band. They reprised their roles in the Netflix movie adaptation.

In 2020, Rannells told Drew Barrymore during an appearance on her show, “It’s called a show-mance. It’s when you fall in love during a show. We met and I felt like such a lazy actor that I fell in love with my co-star. I was like ‘this is so cliché’.”

In 2012, Watkins became a single dad of twins through surrogacy. Rannells was a recent guest on Monica Lewinsky’s ‘Reclaiming’ podcast. He talked about being somewhat thrown into the role of co-parent. This was partly due to the 2020 stay-at-home era, when Rannells was suddenly having to homeschool the children. He admitted he found this very challenging at first, but that family life has become smoother since then.

This month, Watkins is due to film the movie Olde Boys, in which he plays Mike Giordano, a small-town lawyer and part-time striker whose over-50s soccer team is falling apart. That is until a last-ditch entry into a tournament in England, with help from his teenage daughter and coach, Frankie, gives them one final shot at glory. It’s due for release next year.
