The Phoenix Hotel in San Francisco will close its doors after 37 years in early 2026 following the expiration of its long-term land lease.
The legendary hotel, built around a shimmering outdoor patio and pool, has been a cultural landmark for nearly four decades, hosting numerous famous musicians, from U2 to R.E.M.
That’s why it’s fitting that two SF icons, Mighty Real + Juanita MORE!, will celebrate the Phoenix Hotel’s closing with a party on New Year’s Eve.
A reception will take place at Chambers Eat+Drink, SF’s premier lounge, hosted by Miss MORE!, with hors d’oeuvres and DJ sets by Poundcake, Subeaux, David Harness, Bugie, and a performance by Ehra Amaya.

The outdoor poolside courtyard will be open, with DJs and performances before the midnight countdown. Then, the party will close out indoors at Chambers Eat + Drink.
In honor of Phoenix Hotel’s closing, Juanita MORE! gave GayCities an exclusive peek into her party history with the space, not just to celebrate her fabulousness, but also to honor a place that made the world a little better.
A first party for Harvey

“I have a long history and many great memories with the Phoenix Hotel. In 2005, I began producing my annual Pride events at the venue. The first event supported the creation and installation of the Harvey Milk bust sculpture at San Francisco City Hall.”
“Are you going to Juanita’s pool party?”

“The party’s success took off at the Phoenix Hotel/Bambuddha Lounge. The tagline ‘Are you going to Juanita’s pool party?’ is still in use today. That is where my party gained momentum, and it continued to grow. To date, we have raised over $ 1 million, supporting some of our community’s most impactful nonprofit organizations as beneficiaries.”

A New Year’s party tradition begins

“In 2021, David Harness called and asked if I would like to host a New Year’s Eve party with him at the Phoenix Hotel — I said yes immediately. David and I have known each other for over 30 years, having spent most of that time creating safe spaces where people can come together, party, dance, and socialize. We have spent New Year’s Eve together since then, and it has become something I look forward to every year.”

Bittersweet farewells

“It will be bittersweet to ring in the New Year on the closing night of such an iconic space. But it is also a joy to be surrounded by those I love.”
