12 photos from the 4th of July ‘Drag Derby’ at Provincetown’s Crown and Anchor
Hot guys and drag queens riding a mechanical bull featured at this new 4th of July tradition.

As we’ve previously reported, new owners recently took over the running of the Crown and Anchor in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The iconic hotel and entertainment complex is now in the capable hands of Tryst Hospitality, led by Tristan Schukraft. He also owns the Abbey in WeHo and several other Tryst brand hotels.
The completion of the sale took several months longer than expected. This means the 17-room hotel won’t be open this summer season, as it will be undergoing a delayed refurbishment. However, other parts of the venue, such as Paramount, The Vault, and The Tryst Beach Club, have reopened. The Beach Club features a new dance floor, stage, and DJ booth. And you can expect many parties and themed events over the coming weeks.

This includes last weekend’s 4th of July activities to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
One of these activities was a ‘Drag Derby’ last Friday. It’s an event that has already proved popular at the Tryst hotel in Puerto Vallarta. It features drag queens participating in a range of challenges, including navigating an obstacle course and riding a mechanical bull.

The event was hosted by drag icon Willam and was live broadcast for a few seconds on CNN’s Independence Eve with Anderson & Andy. Other participating drag queens included Calypso Jete, Kiki Ball-Change, Amalara Sofia and Tina Burner, who snatched this year’s ‘Derby Queen’ title.

“Drag Derby is an event you have to see to believe,” Schukraft said in a press statement. “It’s drag queens racing through obstacle courses, sexy go-go boys, a mechanical bull, and complete chaos, all rolled into one very competitive, very ridiculous spectacle. It’s completely unhinged, very patriotic, and exactly the kind of chaos I want in Provincetown over Fourth of July.”
