It’s been quite a first week of the season for the PWHL.

In just its third season, the Professional Women’s Hockey League had some great fan interactions, and it saw a team set a new record and a player tie one.

First up was the latest home game for the Ottawa Charge. Two women were on hand and being interviewed by a host with a microphone, when the conversation turned life-changing.

“I love this community, I love everything that’s been given to us,” a woman identified as Theresa said into the microphone, “and I can’t think of a better moment to ask Dani…”

Without finishing her words, Theresa got on one knee and took out a ring, proposing marriage for the couple.

Emily Clark is charging a path for women in pro hockey, securing a salary of $100k for the Ottawa Charge, the largest for a woman in hockey.

During that same game, Ottawa Charge captain Brianne Jenner — an out athlete married to her former Corner teammate Hayleigh Cudmore — tied the league record for most points in a game, with 4.

And for the “great kickoff week hat trick,” the game between the Minnesota Frost and the Seattle Torent set multiple records for a women’s hockey game in the United States: highest attendance for a women’s hockey game in an arena (previously was an NCAA game) and highest attendance for a women’s pro hockey game in the U.S.

This is the first season for Seattle in the PWHL.

Ahead for the league in December, the PWHL will start its Takeover Tour — 16 games played on neutral sites in cities that don’t yet have a team. Some of the cities the PWHL is set to host one-off games include Chicago, Dallas, Detroit and Denver.

The league has expanded from its original six teams to eight teams, and plans are in the works to add four more teams, possibly for next season. The league will make that decision based in part on some data it collects from the Takeover Tour.
