Amber Glenn is the third U.S. woman in the last 20 years to accomplish this feat. The out skater now has a year to aim for the Olympics.
Interestingly, with the next Olympics taking place in Italy, where Madonna had at times trouble from Catholic organizations performing “Like A Prayer” and some of her other hits, it’s an amazingly poetic choice from this out LGBTQ athlete, even as Italy cracks down on LGBTQ rights.
The version of Like A Prayer Glenn’s using is one made popular by the megahit Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine. The version features Madonna’s voice, but also a choir.
We’re thinking Amber Glenn will keep the explosions and effort to destroy the universe off the ice.
Amber Glenn aims for the Winter Olympics
Glenn has never been better on the ice. She has won the last two singles U.S. Championships, and she won gold at the Grand Prix Final earlier this year. She has fully embraced being LGBTQ — identifying as bisexual and pansexual. Different articles and publications share different identities for the U.S. Champion.
“At 16… I was crushing on both males and females,” she wrote for Team USA in 2021.
Glenn has a great shot to make the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina in Italy. Previously, she was named an alternate for the U.S. Olympic team at the 2022 Winter Olympics, having to withdraw due to illness halfway through that year’s U.S. Championships.
For Deadpool and Wolverine? Their duet grossed a mere $1.3 billion at the box office, and they have a great shot to appear in the next “Avengers: Doomsday” movie, out next winter.
If she makes it, she likely won’t be the only skater performing to a Madonna song in Italy at the Winter Olyjpmics this February.
