‘Descendants: Wicked Wonderland’ Cast Reveals a Love Story Between Cinderella and Rapunzel’s Daughters Got Cut (Exclusive)

For more than a decade, Disney’s Descendants franchise has reimagined the worlds of classic heroes and villains through the eyes of their children. Beginning with 2015’s Descendants, followed by Descendants 2, Descendants 3, The Royal Wedding, and 2024’s Descendants: The Rise of Red, the series has built an ever-expanding Disney universe where familiar fairy tale families collide in unexpected ways.

The latest installment, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, picks up after the events of The Rise of Red. Princess Chloe Charming (Malia Baker), daughter of Cinderella (Brandy) and King Charming, reunites with Princess Red (Kylie Cantrall), the daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), as they journey through Wonderland alongside a new generation of Disney descendants. The film also introduces Luis (Alexandro Byrd), son of Encanto‘s Luisa Madrigal; Hazel Hook (Kiara Romero), daughter of Captain Hook; and Pink (Liamani Segura), as the group faces the consequences of changing the timeline.

While Descendants has yet to introduce a canon LGBTQ+ couple, fans have long championed “Malvie,” the fan-favorite pairing of Mal and Evie. Officially, Evie ends up with Doug and Mal with King Ben, but let’s just say anyone who’s heard “Space Between” knows why viewers have continued to read something more into their bond. But could a new queer relationship be on the horizon?

Speaking with Gayety, the actor revealed that an earlier version of Wicked Wonderland included a storyline involving Chloe and Rapunzel’s daughter that immediately caught her attention.

“I personally feel like, well, this is kind of tea,” Baker said. “There was an old love story with Chloe and I thought that was so good.”

She explained that Rapunzel’s daughter originally had “a whole little section” in the film before it was ultimately removed.

“It was so good,” she said. “There was just a vibe there that I was like, ‘Ooh, is this a love story? This can be so interesting.'”

Although Baker didn’t confirm the storyline was intended to be romantic or ever meant to become canon, her comments open the door to imagining what future Disney relationships could look like. That possibility feels right at home in the world of Descendants.

“These characters that would’ve never have interacted whatsoever are now in high school together,” Baker said. “High schools have different crushes.”

For a franchise built on reimagining Disney history, nearly any pairing feels possible. Whether Chloe and Rapunzel’s daughter were simply meant to share a meaningful connection or something more, Baker’s revelation raises an intriguing question about where the Descendants universe could go next—and whether a canon LGBTQ+ romance might eventually become part of that story.

If Wicked Wonderland taught us anything, it’s that there’s always another twist around the corner. Maybe this isn’t the last we’ve heard of Chloe and Rapunzel’s daughter.
