Euphoria teases the release window for season 3

The release window for the highly anticipated return of HBO’s Euphoria has been dropped.

HBO chief Casey Bloys announced during a presentation in New York City (2 November) that Sam Levinson’s much-loved series will air back on screens in 2025.

The news of the Emmy winning teen drama being renewed for a third season was delivered in February 2022. In a statement Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO, said: “Sam, Zendaya, and the entire cast and crew of Euphoria have taken Season 2 to extraordinary heights, challenging narrative convention and form, while maintaining its heart.

“We couldn’t be more honoured to work with this gifted, wildly talented team or more excited to continue our journey with them into season 3.”

The new season is set to have some major changes after the tragic unexpected passing of Angus Cloud who played Fezco. In addition, Barbie Ferreira announced that she would be stepping away from the show and not reprising her role as Kat Hernandez.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” Ferreira wrote in her message. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”

Further clarification of her decision making process came during an episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, with Dax Shephered she revealed that: “I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show.

“I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either. I would have played her for as long as I was asked to.”

Since the 2019 debut, Euphoria has continued to have gained widespread critical acclaim due to its relatable characters, timely storylines and in depth representation of the modern LGBTQIA+ experience.

Euphoria is based on an Israeli show of the same name created by Ron Leshem and Daphna Levin and follows a group of teens navigating loss, love, sex and addiction.

Earlier this year, Zendaya – who plays Rue Bennett – spoke of her hopes for her character in the upcoming season during an awards season Q&A. Her main desire for Rue was to “ literally just to be able to be alive and maybe enjoy it.

“I know that she can do it because Sam wrote it, and Sam is Rue, and he’s done it. He’s proof that there is hope for Rue and anyone like Rue, and from the beautiful letters and people who have reached out.

“I am so grateful for those experiences when somebody comes up to me, and they speak about Rue and how they’ve connected to her or whatever part of their healing journey she has been able to be a part of.

“To me, that is the greatest, greatest gift I can ever ask for, it gives me Euphoria and purpose in what I do. I just hope for a little bit of joy and for her just to be able to breathe and love without the fear of losing.

“I mean, she’s gonna have to go through some things, yes, but you know, we’ll get there.”

Alongside Zendaya, Cloud and Ferreira, the first two seasons starred Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Storm Reid, Sydney Sweeney, Nika King, Colman Domingo and Javon “Wanna” Walton.
