Jordan Stolz, who was the favorite to win the race, finished third after he stumbled during the race. Stolz had already qualified for the event at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics with his previous performances this season.

It is a huge accomplishment for McDermott-Mostowy. Four years ago he was left off Team USA for the 2022 Winter Olympics after suffering an illness in the late autumn during key training and competition season. Looking at a four-year battle to fight all the way back to another shot at the Olympics, he had largely decided to leave the sport behind him.

Yet he dug deep and found his way back onto the track. Now those four years of countless hours of training and diet have all paid off, and Conor McDermott-Mostowy will be an Olympian.

He had previously won a silver and a bronze at the U.S. Championships.

He’s not done yet. McDermott-Mostowy can still qualify for the 500-meter and 1500-meter events, and could also be selected for relays at the Winter Olympics in Milan in February.

Also qualifying for the Milan Olympics is speed skater Brittany Bowe. This will be Bowe’s fourth Winter Olympics — and she says it will also be her last. Bowe also qualified for the 1000-meter, finishing second behind Erin Jackson. Bowe has previously won two Olympic bronze medals.

Huge congratulations to both McDermott-Mostowy and Bowe, who are part of the fast-growing Team LGBTQ headed to these Milan Olympics. Be sure to check Outsports regularly for all the updates on out gay, lesbian and bi athletes who qualify for these upcoming 2026 Milan Winter Olympic Games.
