It has been revealed how Taylor Swift’s popular Folklore track ‘Seven’ was featured in Heartstopper season two.

On 3 August, fans of the beloved series were finally treated to the highly anticipated second season.
In the new batch of episodes, Charlie Spring (Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor) “navigate their new relationship” and the pressures of coming out as a couple to friends and family.
The synopsis adds: “Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges, and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.”
Since its release, Heartstopper season two has received universal acclaim from fans and critics, with many lauding the eight episodes for its diverse set of storylines and the cast’s incredible chemistry.
It has also earned a certified 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Alongside the aforementioned praises, the new season has received attention from Taylor Swift fans due to the eighth episode featuring her hit song ‘Seven’.
After Tara and Darcy profess their love for each other, the track can be heard playing in the background while the friendship group plays games, laugh, and share wholesome moments.
In response to the song’s inclusion, fans flocked to Twitter (also known as X) to express their excitement about the heartwarming scene.
One fan wrote: “we NEED to talk about this BEAUTIFUL scene of everyone enjoying the time together and dancing with ‘Seven’ by Taylor Swift.”
Another fan tweeted: “This friendship, seven by Taylor Swift in the background, this scene UGH *chefs kiss*.”
Amid the excitement, some fans wondered how the series got the rights to Swift’s song, with one user theorising that the show dished out “the big bucks”.
However, it didn’t take long for Matt Biffa – Heartstopper’s music supervisor – to shut down the high price tag rumours.
“She just thought the scene was beautiful and we were then able to make it work,” he tweeted.
In a separate interview with Elle, executive producer Patrick Walters gave further insight into why ‘Seven’ was chosen for the aforementioned scene and how they pitched the idea to Swift.
“We had this beautiful montage after that [Tara and Darcy] scene of all the friendship group having the time of their lives away from prom, just being who they are with each other, with no sense of judgement or the world looking in,” Walters explained.
“The song went over that in the most beautiful way, so once we saw that, we were like, ‘Oh my god, we need Taylor Swift to let us have the song.'”
He went on to say that the show’s creative team sent letters detailing the importance of ‘Seven’ being used in the scene, which resulted in a very “receptive” response from Swift and her team.
Heartstopper season two is now available on Netflix.
