Jack Woolley will be back at the Summer Olympics, as the taekwondo athlete earned one of two guaranteed European spots at the European Qualification Tournament.
Woolley previously represented Ireland at the Tokyo Summer Olympics. He lost in the round of 16, which was considered a bit of a disappointment. He was one of at least 186 publicly out athletes at those Olympic Games.
Now he’s back in the 58kg category to fight his way onto the medal podium.

Our weekly playbook is packed with everything from locker room chatter to pressing LGBTQ sports issues.
Woolley has won countless medals on the world stage. That includes silver medals at the 2022 European Championships and 2023 European Games.
He has had a bit of a rocky road as an out athlete. He came out as bi in a documentary film. He later expressed regret that he came out.
Shortly after the Tokyo Summer Olympics, he was brutally attacked on the street in Dublin, in what at the time was described as likely random.
Like many athletes, Woolley mostly sticks to sports in his social-media posts. So the chances of him sharing any information about a boyfriend or girlfriend are slim to none.
Still, we’ll be cheering for Woolley to take his spot on the medal podium in Paris!
