Jennifer Lopez gets personal about queer representation: “It is something that is so important right now”
Jennifer Lopez made a powerful statement in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

This movie [Kiss of the Spider Woman] is very personal for me. I have people in my family who are part of the queer community. And when I understand the representation and seeing Rita Moreno [in her groundbreaking performance in ‘West Side Story’] and what that did for my life, I know how important it is for them to see characters like that.
And characters that are strong and resilient and beautiful and full of love and where another character, who Diego [Luna] plays, who is a straight cis man, revolutionary tough guy, can fall in love [with Tonatiuh’s queer character] and really see the humanity.
It doesn’t matter what the outer shell is. It matters who you are inside and you can see humanity in another person. That pure love, I think, is something that is so important right now.
