Christmas in Germany means festive vibes, seasonal staples like mulled wine and roasted almonds—and recently, a growing number of queer Christmas markets. In 2025, numerous German cities – from Berlin to Munich and Hamburg – will once again host LGBTQ+ & gay Christmas markets. Add to that international formats in Amsterdam and Toronto, and even special gay Christmas cruises on the Danube. Whether it’s drag shows, charity events, or a cozy evening with friends in a wintry setting, these events blend classic Advent traditions with queer visibility and a sense of togetherness. With Couple of Men and our list of gay Christmas markets 2025, you’ll be in the holiday mood in no time.

Why queer Christmas markets matter
Queer Christmas markets have become a staple of the winter cultural calendar. They create spaces where LGBTQ+ visitors feel welcome and where local communities are visible and inclusive. Many markets intentionally embrace social responsibility, with proceeds being donated, organizations presenting their work, and artists from the scene curating the program. The result is a blend of festive atmosphere, cultural exchange, and civic engagement. While traditional Christmas markets focus on historic flair, LGBTQ+ Christmas markets emphasize openness, diversity, and connection. For many travelers and locals, they’ve become an essential highlight of the Advent season.

Christmas Avenue & LGBTQIA Winterdays in Berlin
Berlin has long been a hub of queer life in Germany – and for several years now, it has also hosted its Christmas market. Christmas Avenue at Nollendorfplatz in the Schöneberg district creates a colorful, welcoming atmosphere right in the heart of the traditional queer neighborhood. In 2025, the program kicks off with the LGBTQIA Winterdays from November 4 to 22, focusing on social and political topics. Associations and initiatives present their work and invite visitors to engage. Christmas Avenue in Berlin runs from November 24 to December 23, 2025. Expect vibrant light installations, a diverse stage program featuring drag, concerts, and readings, along with numerous festive food stalls. Berlin blends classic Christmas market vibes with a clear message: queer visibility, solidarity, and LGBTQ+ joy before and around Christmas.

Pink Christmas in Munich
In Bavaria’s capital, Pink Christmas in the Glockenbachviertel has long been an institution. From November 24 to December 22, 2025, Stephansplatz transforms into a small but charming winter village, complete with pink-decorated trees, sparkling lights, and a warm atmosphere. Visitors can sip mulled wine and enjoy Bavarian treats while catching daily shows – from local DJs to drag performances. We’ve visited Munich ourselves and remember the special vibe: everything decked out in pink, delicious local specialties, and music by a DJ we knew from the Pink Lake Festival in Carinthia—all rounded off by an open, welcoming crowd. Of course, we took home a queer gingerbread heart, and our rainbow mulled-wine mugs still sit in our cupboard. If you want to add a queer highlight to your Munich Advent plans, don’t miss Pink Christmas.

Heavenue in Cologne
One of Germany’s most important queer metropolises, Cologne hosts Heavenue—a market that genuinely lives up to its name. From November 17 to December 23, 2025, visitors can expect a pop-art-inspired winter wonderland with colorful stalls, imaginative decor, and a varied evening program. Weekend shows featuring drag, DJs, and live acts are especially popular. Heavenue is more than a Christmas market: it’s a community hub, a place for friendships and connection—and a symbol of the city’s vibrant identity. We joined Cologne Pride in the summer of 2025, marching and celebrating queer culture with over one million attendees—a powerful testament to the community’s vibrancy and visibility in Cologne.

It’s known for its cozy atmosphere and lively weekend program. Mulled wine, punch, and northern German specialties invite you to linger, while local organizations raise awareness and collect donations. Winter Pride is a welcoming gathering space that also supports vital community initiatives.

It’s a special spot for queer visibility in the heart of one of Europe’s major financial hubs.

Regional specials: Heidelberg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Darmstadt & Essen
Beyond the major hubs, smaller cities contribute to the season with their own formats. Often these are single evenings or recurring Monday meetups geared toward queer visitors, adding a pink or rainbow accent to traditional markets.
Pink Monday in Heidelberg
The historic market square of Heidelberg, home to the Heidelberg Christmas Market, transforms into a sea of pink lights for one evening in late November/early December 2025. Town hall, churches, and fountains are illuminated; there’s a special pink mulled wine and a limited-edition collector’s mug. With concerts, a mayoral address, and donations for AIDS-Hilfe Heidelberg, Pink Monday is a date locals look forward to.
- Location: Heidelberg Marktplatz
- Dates: 2025 date TBC, from 6 pm
- Website: Heidelberg Marketing
“Pink Monday Heidelberg” premiered in 2014 on the market square. Traditionally, the mayor opens the evening at 6 pm before the Town Hall, the Hercules Fountain, the Church of the Holy Spirit, and the Hotel Zum Ritter St. Georg shine in pink for one night.

Gays on Christmas Market in Düsseldorf
In Düsseldorf, the community traditionally gathers at the Schwarzwaldhütte on Schadowplatz. LGBTQ+ travelers and friends can look forward to a queer Christmas meetup here as well! Since 2014, the event, then known as Pink Monday Düsseldorf, has brought together locals under the rainbow at the long-standing Schwarzwaldhütte on the Schadowplatz market.
- Location: Schwarzwaldhütte, Schadowplatz Düsseldorf
- Dates: Mondays in December 2025 (TBC)
- Website: Community project Schwarzwaldhütte
Expect egg liqueur, mulled wine, hot cocoa with Amarula, and hearty snacks. Under the motto “Gays on Christmas Market,” clubs, bars, and associations come together to celebrate Advent. Exact 2025 dates are usually announced in the autumn; the queer meetup typically takes place on Mondays in December. The series is organized by Ruhrpride (one of the German Pride events) and the “Zum Ritter” beer garden hut. Happy holidays to Essen, too!

“Gaynachtsmarkt” Stuttgart
Stuttgart has hosted a dedicated queer hut on the large Stuttgart Christmas Market for several years. The community meets weekly to enjoy mulled wine, connect, and raise funds for AIDS-Hilfe Stuttgart. The nearby Rubens Bar is a beloved scene hangout. The queer meetup typically takes place on Thursdays at the “Heißer Fritz” stall on the market square.
- Location: Hut on the Christmas market, Stuttgart city center
- Dates: weekly during the Stuttgart Christmas Market (26 November to 23 December 2025)
- Website: Gaynachtsmarkt Stuttgart
Our tip: In past years, a flyer discount was offered on drinks at the GAYnachtsmarkt Stuttgart – hopefully again in 2025. With the flyer, you’ll get €0.50 off a beverage, e.g., a mulled wine. If you’re freezing after the market, our friends David and Andreas recommend the nearby Rubens gay café.

Vielbunter Friday in Darmstadt
In the past years, the queer cultural center Vielbunt e.V. has hosted queer Christmas activities on Darmstadt’s Friedensplatz on weekends from late November to Christmas. In the past, there was also a weekly “Vielbunter Friday” with a colorful show on the main stage of the Christmas market. Expect live music and drag performances, with proceeds benefiting queer projects – a night of entertainment and visibility.
- Location: Darmstadt Marktplatz
- Dates: 6 December 2025, from 6 pm (TBC)
- Website: Vielbunt Darmstadt

Pink Monday “Glühweintreff” in Essen
Essen also hosts queer Monday meetups during Advent. The popular “Zum Ritter” hut, located between the Cathedral and Kennedyplatz, is the perfect spot for enjoying mulled wine, music, and community time. Dates for 2025 are announced in late autumn. As the Ruhr area’s second-largest city, Essen usually also features its own weekly LGBT Christmas event, the “Schwul-lesbischer Glühweintreff Essen,” at the heart of the International Christmas Market Essen.
- Location: “Zum Ritter” hut at the International Christmas Market Essen
- Dates: Mondays in Advent 2025 (TBC)

Tips for visiting gay Christmas markets 2025
A visit to queer Christmas markets is always a special experience. To keep it safe, relaxed, and sustainable, here are a few pointers:
- Safety: Markets can get crowded. Watch your belongings and set a meetup point with friends in case you get separated. Drink responsibly and plan your way home.
- Accommodation: Many host cities have LGBTQ+-welcoming hotels. Book early – places fill up in Advent. Check our hotel reviews for vetted picks.
- Sustainability & community: Support local vendors, try regional specialties, and donate to queer causes when possible. It helps keep the community visible.
- Clothing & comfort: Dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes—most markets are outdoors and can be cold or slippery.
- Set meetup points: Especially at big markets, agree on fixed meeting spots with friends to avoid stress if you get split up.
- Cash on hand: Smaller stalls may still operate on a cash-only basis. Having some money makes it easier to grab drinks, snacks, or souvenirs.
Queer alternatives: Gay Ski Weeks from winter 2026
After mulled wine, cookies, and twinkling lights, many queer travelers head to the mountains in the new year. Gay Ski Weeks have long combined sports, parties, and community—the perfect bridge from Advent into winter. From January 2026, numerous events return worldwide, where the slopes are just as important as the evenings with music, culture, and lively après-ski.
The choice is broad: in Europe, options include Arosa, Lenzerheide, Tignes, and Sölden; in North America, classics such as Aspen and Whistler. There are also established Gay Ski Weeks in Asia (e.g., Niseko, Japan) and Oceania (Queenstown, New Zealand). All share the mix of outdoor adventure, cultural programming, and a safe space for the community.

For many of us, the run-up to Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year—not only because of gifts. When it’s cold (and hopefully snowy) outside, it’s time to cuddle up at home, watch the first holiday movies, and plan pre-Christmas parties with friends and family. It’s also the perfect time to visit Germany’s decorated Christmas markets, where the air is filled with cinnamon, mulled wine, roasted almonds, and fresh cookies. And, of course, Christmas carols are an integral part of the tradition. We’ve put great effort into researching our list of gay Christmas markets for 2025, but we’re sure we may still have missed a few pink highlights. We’d love your tips so we can add them. Merry Christmas from your Couple of Men!
