Meet 29 trans women who won state, national or international championships

While most trans athletes aren’t winning major titles, here are over two dozen athletes who have found major success. The post Meet 29 trans women who won state, national or international championships appeared first on Outsports.

With so much public conversation about trans athletes in women’s sports, a post by trans advocate Schuyler Bailar — a trailblazing former NCAA athlete — claiming in 2022 that three trans women who have ever won national or international competitions in the women’s category “don’t exist.”

To be sure, this list goes beyond 2022. Yet even at that time, Bailar’s claim was simply not true.

Off the top of my head I could name several trans athletes who had won major championships. And some digging has found over two dozen trans women (updated to May 2025) who have earned national or international victories.

No out trans woman has won an Olympic medal in the women’s category (Canadian soccer player Quinn is nonbinary).

While the number is higher now, way more than just “three” trans women had won titles in 2022, debunking Bailar’s false claim at the time.

There are also at least two trans women Outsports knows of who are not publicly out who have won female titles. As Outsports does not out people against their will, we are withholding their names.

Still, many more than two trans women have won national or international competitions, with others doing very well, including state and regional titles.

There are various other successful trans women who may not have won a “championship” or, including MMA fighter Fallon Fox, who won a couple bouts but lost in the final of one tournament. Alana McLaughlin has also won a professional MMA bout.

We at Outsports want to make sure no one erases the history of trans women — or any LGBTQ people — in sports. If we missed anyone else, please do let us know in the comments and we will add them.
