Nicholas Galitzine Calls ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ a ‘Nice Reset’ After ‘The Mosquito Bowl’
Nicholas Galitzine says the 'Red, White & Royal Wedding' set was a 'nice reset' after five months of bombs on Peter Berg's war film 'The Mosquito Bowl.'
Nicholas Galitzine told Variety’s Marc Malkin that shooting “Red, White & Royal Wedding” right after Peter Berg’s war film “The Mosquito Bowl” gave him a breather. He spoke Thursday, Oct. 22, at the world premiere of “The Mosquito Bowl” at AFI Fest in Hollywood.
“It was a nice reset going onto that film set after having bombs blow up in my face for five months,” Galitzine told Variety.
Berg began filming in Queensland, Australia, in August 2025. Prime Video announced in mid-January that cameras were rolling on the “Red, White & Royal Blue” sequel, ABC News reported. The sequel wrapped in March.
“It was a slight change of pace doing that movie compared to doing this movie,” he said. Lena Headey Joins ‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ as Prince Henry’s Mother
Galitzine singled out one newcomer. “It was a really wholesome experience while adding some really amazing actors to the cast like Lena Headey,” he said. “I’m a huge fan of hers and she plays my mother in it, and so we just had a great time.”
Headey, Cersei on “Game of Thrones,” plays Princess Catherine. “Catherine is a little uptight, I would say, and quite funny,” she told ScreenRant in July, Just Jared reported. On timing, she said, “Yeah, I think end of the year.” Prime Video hasn’t announced a date.
Taylor Zakhar Perez is back as Alex Claremont-Diaz. Uma Thurman returns as his mother, the president, and Chloe Fineman is new, Amazon said. Jamie Babbit, who made “But I’m a Cheerleader,” took over directing from Matthew López. López co-wrote the script with Gemma Burgess and author Casey McQuiston.
“We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy, and gay joy,” Babbit said when Amazon greenlit the film in October 2025.
Henry and Alex aren’t the ones walking down the aisle. Variety wrote that the film “reportedly features the wedding of Princess Beatrice,” Henry’s sister, played by Ellie Bamber. In Prime Video’s production video, Zakhar Perez said, “We’re not getting married.” On a Henry and Alex wedding, Galitzine said, “That’s a long ways off at this point.”
The sequel is rated R for “sexual content/nudity and language,” according to the Motion Picture Association. Gayety previously covered the sequel’s R rating. Galitzine Plays Brown Quarterback John McLaughry in ‘The Mosquito Bowl’
“This is an anti-war movie,” Galitzine told Variety. “It’s a representation I think of the reality of how brutal and grotesque war is.”
The film adapts Buzz Bissinger’s 2022 book. Galitzine plays John McLaughry, Brown University’s quarterback, whose father was his coach, per Netflix’s Tudum. Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson and Tom Francis play fellow college stars turned Marines. Their real counterparts played a football game on Guadalcanal on Christmas Eve 1944, HollywoodLife reported, months before the Battle of Okinawa.
“We wanted to pay homage to them whilst showing the realities of war,” Galitzine said.
He told Tudum that Berg had the cast do almost all their own stunts. “I’ve never experienced this kind of immersion before in my career,” he said.
Larry David turned up at the premiere, too, posing with Berg in Variety’s photos. The film held a 35% score from 17 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes as of Nov. 1. It opened in limited theaters Oct. 30 and streams on Netflix starting Nov. 25. Nicholas Galitzine Debuts Darker Hair for a February Shoot
Malkin also posted on X that Galitzine “shows off darker hair color” at the premiere. “He told me it’s for a project he starts shooting in February,” Malkin wrote.
The new shade is darker than his He-Man look in this summer’s “Masters of the Universe.” He’s said some of the He-Man muscle carried over into Henry. Galitzine wouldn’t name the new job.
“You’ll find out soon enough,” he told Malkin. Of the hair, he said, “I’m just letting it all grow in, ya know.”
