Olivia Miles is having one of the best debut WNBA seasons in women's basketball history, breaking a record held by Caitlyn Clark.

Olivia Miles has reached the climactic end of one of the best regular seasons any rookie has ever had in women’s basketball.
She scored 21 points in a 101-89 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, bringing her total points for the season to 790. With that outpouring of points, she broke Caitlin Clark’s WNBA rookie record for points scored in a season, at the time of 769 points.
In case it wasn’t obvious already, being in the same discussion as Clark in anything on a basketball court is a good sign for your career.

Olivia Miles was the second overall pick in the WNBA Draft, taken by the Minnesota Lynx. She is very public with her relationship with fellow player Maddy Westbeld.
Miles is averaging 19.7 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 6 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game. The Minnesota Lynx are currently the best team in the WNBA, with a 32-10 record. They finish the season with two games against Clark’s Indiana team before the WNBA Playoffs open next weekend.

Miles talked about what the moment meant to her after her record-setting game.
“It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team. I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there,” Miles said. “It wouldn’t be possible without one, a coach that believes in you and then two, having teammates that have my back.
“So it’s really special to obviously be able to accomplish that with such a great team and on a win as well.”
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, who is the winningest coach in league history and also LGBTQ, talked about what Miles has meant for the team this season.
“She’s been incredible for us, but it’s going to get harder, and she’s got to be able to quickly navigate things and make reads that make us a better team. She’s going to have to, you know, every possession on both sides of the ball.

“You have to be, you’re playing a position that, you know, and she knows this.
“We’ve talked about it. Everyone’s looking at you, and she’s got some really broad shoulders, wants it, can handle it, has the maturity to do it, handles the ups and downs really, really well. And like you said, set a scoring record. That’s pretty incredible.”
The Lynx are looking to win their fifth WNBA crown, and their first since 2017. With Oliva Miles leading the way, anything is possible.
