DOA Pro Wrestling’s annual Queen of Thorns tournament proved to be a sweet homecoming for out pro wrestler and former DOA Grand champion Amira.

In her first appearance in the Portland-based promotion since her months-long sojourn to Japan with pro wrestling promotion Marvelous, Amira outlasted the 12-woman field to win her second Queen of Thorns crown, becoming the first wrestler to win the tournament multiple times.

Amira’s path to the top saw her defeat newcomer Naomi King in a mirror of Amira’s own debut in DOA Pro Wrestling three years ago during the 2022 Queen of Thorns tournament.

She followed that by downing 2024 QWI 200 number one-ranked wrestler DARK Sheik, plus 2024 Queen of Thorns winner Liiza Hall, in a triple-threat semifinal match to set up a final between herself and rival Rebel Kel in a match between former Queen of Thorns winners and former DOA Grand champions.

The final saw Amira extract a measure of revenge after Kel helped Abigail Warren defeat Amira for the DOA Grand championship in April, making Warren the first out trans wrestler to hold the title in the company’s 17-year history.

After a hard-hitting affair that went all around the venue, Amira toppled Kel with a World’s Strongest Slam to win the tournament.

“I vowed that, when I left, I’d be even better, I’d be even stronger. I vowed to come back an Amira that you all have never seen before,” she said after being presented her trophy. “Queen of Thorns, Queen of Portland, I am back home.”

“The Tower of Power” opened up more about the moment on social media in the following days.

“This tournament will always hold a special place in my heart because it is where it all began. 2022 Queen of Thorns was the birth of Amira,” she said via X. “Every competitor gave their all this year. My matches in particular were challenging but were the perfect culmination of my career in wrestling so far. A hope for the future with Naomi King and ode to those who have taught me in my career with Liiza Hall and DARK Sheik and a feud that changed me with Rebel Kel.”

The tournament field itself was one of the queerest yet, featuring multiple out trans pro wrestlers for the second consecutive year and nearly every match including at least one LGBTQ entrant.

The only non-tournament match on the card followed suit as out pro wrestler Zaye Perez and Spencer Scott, known together as the Flamin’ Aces, defended the DOA Tag Team titles against out pro wrestlers Lucy Lux and Zelda Foxx, known collectively as Heartbreaker Club.
