Outsports will share its Power 100 on October 14 at 11 a.m. PT. That list of powerful and influential people across the sports landscape in the United States will include amazing out LGBTQ people who have influence on American sports.
This year we are doing things a little differently. And this allows Outsports the opportunity to highlight many different voices.
In the past, the Outsports Power 100 has focused exclusively on current power and influence. We have previously focused on the people we felt were the 100 most powerful and influential out LGBTQ people in all of sports.
This year, we’re doing things a bit differently while also making sure we highlight the out LGBTQ people in American sports with massive power and influence.

Outsports Power 100 features major out LGBTQ people in sports
Going forward, the Outsports Power 100 will feature our selections for the Top 50 out LGBTQ people who have the most power during that year.
The Top 50 will highlight the people we think have massive influence in the American sports scene, whether that be in the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLS, NHL, MLS or any other major pro or college sports organizations or media.
The other honorees — the Rising 50 — will feature people who may not yet wield the power and influence of a Top 50 honoree, but who still make their presence known. Each of the Rising 50 will be people not previously highlighted in either of the first two years we’ve published the exclusive list.
None of this is a science. In fact, the linking of power and influence across men’s leagues like the NBA, and women’s leagues like the NWSL, is extremely difficult. Yet we try our best.
Outsports works hard with all of the major sports leagues and even the sports media outlets to make sure we incorporate voices and faces that reflect the current situation in American sports.
No doubt: We will get this wrong in the eyes of some people. We understand that. There is no way to get this 100% right. It’s simply impossible.
Yet Outsports strives to include out gay, lesbian, bi and trans voices across major pro sports. On Oct. 14, we’ll be sharing the full list of the 2025 Outsports Power 100, celebrating some of the out LGBTQ people helping to shape American sports today.
