The Sundance Film Festival took over Park City, the scenic mountain oasis just 40 minutes outside of Salt Lake City, for the last time this past weekend.

Originally established by the late Robert Redford as a haven for independent filmmakers to thrive and showcase their work in a serene setting away from the Hollywood scene, the festival (where flicks like Whiplash, American Psycho, 500 Days of Summer, and Sorry, Baby made their premieres) announced plans to relocate to Boulder, Colorado, following its 2026 event.

One of its founding goals was to showcase diverse work, and over the years, Utah festivalgoers have been treated to screenings of formative LGBTQ+ works like Call Me By Your Name, Paris is Burning, Hairspray, But I’m a Cheerleader, and I Saw the TV Glow.
