Pride month kicks off today and nobody celebrates better than New Yorkers!

It’s always important to teach your kids about the struggles the LGBTQ+ community has faced, but this month especially they can learn through fun events and activities that are happening around the city.

Manhattan

Pride at CMOM

Children’s Museum of Manhattan, 212 West 83rd St., Upper West Side

Children can learn about the heritage of Pride, historic LGBTQ+ New York City leaders, and how to become active members in their communities through a variety of artmaking and STEM projects, story times, music and dance activities, and special performances. 

Glamour and Disguise: A Pride Bash

Get ready to strut your stuff at “Glamour and Disguise: A Pride Bash”, a celebration of community, culture, and self-expression. Cathedral Pride Sunday

Take part in several events for a full day of Pride including Drag Story Hour, Pride Family Picnic & Performance by the Queer Big Apple Corps, and  Pride Choral Evensong. Following a fun-filled afternoon, return to the Cathedral to experience a breathtaking Evensong service featuring LGBTQIA+ composers and vocals by the Cathedral Community Choir. Visitors are welcome to listen and sing.

Inclusive Pride Family Day: Express Yourself

Join the Intrepid Museum to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride at their Inclusive Pride Family Day: Express Yourself! Learn about the history of struggle and accomplishments of LGBTQ+ communities in the Navy and explore opportunities for self-expression on board. Families of all ages and identities are invited to participate in hands-on art and storytelling activities all about expressing themselves. The afternoon will also include a read-aloud and a family-friendly presentation. A quiet room will be available to families who need to take a break. A social narrative, visual vocabulary, and visual schedule will be sent to every family before the event.
