Sam Smith Announces New Album ‘Hazel Eyes’ and Drops Euphoric Love Song ‘My Guy’

Sam Smith is ready to open a new chapter.

The Grammy, BRIT, Golden Globe and Oscar-winning artist has announced their fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes, arriving Aug. 21 via Capitol Records. Alongside the announcement, Smith has released the album’s lead single, “My Guy,” a glowing ode to being completely swept up in love.

The forthcoming album marks Smith’s first full-length project since 2023’s Gloria and finds the singer leaning into themes of romance, vulnerability and self-discovery.

“This album is an incredibly special record to me,” Smith said in a statement. “I have been writing it for over three years with a very small group of beautiful, dear friends of mine. This album is very personal, and I feel I have deepened myself as an artist through the making of it, through being a producer on the record, to walking alongside this record from the start to the finish and pushing myself at every single turn.”

They continued: “This record and this music is incredibly romantic. I’ve learned so many life lessons through making this album, and I’ve documented it all through the music.” A New Sound Inspired by New York

Much of Hazel Eyes was created in New York City, which Smith now calls home. The 12-track project was co-produced by Smith, Simon Aldred and David Odlum, with contributions from acclaimed collaborators including Feist, Shahzad Ismaily and Rob Moose.

Partly recorded at the legendary Electric Lady Studios, the album blends several influences while keeping Smith’s unmistakable voice front and center. According to the announcement, the project draws inspiration from folk, R&B, country and orchestral pop, creating a soundscape that reflects both personal growth and artistic freedom.

The album also includes the previously released tracks “Love Is A Stillness” and “To Be Free,” both of which offered an early glimpse into this new era. “My Guy” Celebrates Queer Joy and Devotion

If heartbreak defined much of Smith’s earlier catalog, “My Guy” arrives from a very different place.

Co-written by Smith, Feist and Shahzad Ismaily, the track captures the rush of being fully loved in return. The song also features harmonies from Feist and singer-songwriter Moses Sumney, adding warmth and playful charm to the chorus.

Smith described the song as one they had been waiting years to write.

“This is a song that I feel I have been waiting a lifetime to write and sing,” they said. “Written with beautiful friends on a summer’s day in New York, this one fell out of the sky.”

They added: “In this sometimes cold and distant world, I hope you can feel the love and the closeness of this recording. I tried to capture the glow and the warmth of love in this one, it makes me cry, maybe it will make you feel a little love too.”

The release arrives during Pride Month, making its message of queer love and happiness especially timely. Special Stonewall Performance Set for Pride Weekend

Smith will also help kick off New York City Pride Weekend with an intimate performance on June 26 at The Booking.com Theater inside the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center.

The venue holds historic significance as the first LGBTQ+ visitor center within the National Park Service. Located near the site of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, the center serves as a space dedicated to preserving and celebrating LGBTQ+ history.

The appearance will connect one of pop music’s most recognizable voices with one of the movement’s most meaningful landmarks, creating a fitting Pride Month moment ahead of the album’s release. Building on the Momentum of Gloria

Hazel Eyes follows a busy stretch for Smith. Since releasing Gloria, which featured the chart-topping smash “Unholy” with Kim Petras, the singer has continued exploring new creative territory.

Their recent “To Be Free” residency series brought audiences into more intimate settings, featuring a mix of fan favorites, unreleased music and surprise guest appearances from artists including Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Brandi Carlile and Kim Petras.

The residency continues this summer in Mexico City, with additional live dates expected to be announced in the coming months.

With Hazel Eyes, Smith appears ready to embrace a different kind of love story, one built not on longing, but on finding the person who stays. Hazel Eyes Tracklist
