A mini-guide to Amsterdam ahead of WorldPride
Pride Month is winding down stateside, but across the pond, they're just getting started!

The end of June means Pride Month might be winding down stateside, but across the pond, they’re starting to gear up for the biggest party of the year: WorldPride.
For the first time ever, WorldPride is headed to the Amsterdam in the Netherlands for two full weeks of canals, chaos, and unabashed queer joy from July 25 to August 8.

It’s especially fitting, considering 2026 marks 25 years of marriage equality in Amsterdam, and the celebration’s theme is Unity, as a symbol of tolerance, connectedness, and love.
We know what you’re thinking: How the heck am I going to get two weeks of PTO?! But not every day of WorldPride is the same; opening weekend’s Pride Walk and Pride Park are largely centered around Vondelpark, while the WorldPride Village and Closing Concert are at Museumplein.
That said, the can’t-miss event is the Canal Parade in Amstel on August 1, where boats will float through canals instead of down the streets. It’s basically part protest, part parade, and mostly floating rave. It’s going to be the most exciting (and packed!) part of the entire celebration — and we’d start saving our spot on the street tomorrow if we could.

It’s a wonder why it’s taken this long for Amsterdam to host WorldPride, considering it’s the perfect blend of touristy, artsy, and activist. Its walkable and bikeable atmosphere means queer neighborhoods like Reguliersdwarsstraat are easily accessible. And if you’re trying to get to a circuit party at 2 AM, you’d be better off taking a bike!
With more than 300 events across two weeks, WorldPride in Amsterdam is what you make it. That said, as the travel experts at GayCities, we have a few recs if you’re looking to make the most of your time.
Where to stay
OK, we’re not going to sugarcoat it: Amsterdam is expecting more than half a million people for WorldPride, and accommodations are going to be tough. Thankfully, there are lush and scenic options like Hotel CC Amsterdam and Pulitzer Amsterdam, name brands like the Amsterdam Marriott, and tons of other queer-friendly hostels and hotels.
The only snag: Like any other European city, Amsterdam is known for its tight corners — and lack of elevators. So, pack lightly, you won’t be spending any time at home anyway!
Where to eat
As a vibrant city with a melting pot of comfort foods, street snacks, and international flavors, you can’t go wrong with faves like French fries with mayo, stroopwafel, and bitterballen. But if you’re looking for a more formal sit-down, you won’t be disappointed with Santi & Santini, perhaps the best Italian spot in town; the charming and well-trafficked Café de Jaren; or the luxurious-looking Café Americain, which serves a Croque Madame so delicious, it may elicit tears.
And if you’re looking to take advantage of the, ahem, coffee shops, baby, we’ve got great news for you!
Where to drink
You don’t have to look far to find a party during WorldPride. (Might we suggest, perhaps, the streets?!) That said, there are a few must-see LGBTQ+ nightlife spots, like the award-winning Eagle Amsterdam, which is as leather as you’d expect, the especially fetish-friendly Club Church — it’s a small and crowded space, but you might just find a new religion.
For those looking for a chiller vibe, we suggest the David Bowie-inspired Ziggy’s Bar, where the brews and cocktails are cheap and the Red Light District is right around the corner.
What to see
OK, OK, with two weeks of partying on the schedule, we know museums might not be on top of your list. That said, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum, which features the most comprehensive collection of the iconic artist, and the Anne Frank House are worth carving out some time.
And for those seeking some R&R, we recommend BADHUS Social Sauna, which allows you to reset your body, mind, and hangover, probably, in a scenic waterfront warehouse.
