Azzi Fudd knows a thing or two about stardom. The starting guard for the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team is the girlfriend of former teammate and current Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers, who has already become a star in the WNBA.
Now Azzi Fudd and teammate Sarah Strong have led UConn to yet another No. 1 ranking in all of the women’s college basketball polls and a strong 8-0 start to the season. They’ve already beaten two AP ranked teams — Top-25 Louisville and Top-10 Michigan — facing their next tough test on the road at Top-20 USC as the Trojans adjust to a season without JuJu Watkins.
In beating fellow Big East team Xavier recently, the Huskies posted a monster 65-point win, nearly tripling Xavier’s score, 104-39. It was a modest 12-point outpouring by Fudd, followed by just 10 points against South Florida. Yet those came after a big two-game run in which the guard scored a combined 55 points, including against ranked Michigan.
For the season, Fudd has made over 50% of her three-point attempts — top 10 in the nation — and averaging 18.5 points per game.
Her emergence into stardom has garnered Fudd endorsement deals. One of the companies that’s come calling to Storrs is Celsius.
