Glamorous, Netflix’s upcoming queer comedy series starring Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny, has received its first trailer.
In the clip, Miss Benny’s character Marco Mejia – “a young gender non-conforming queer man” – is recruited by the legendary “supermodel of the world” Madolyn Addison (Cattrall) for a job at her cosmetics company Glamorous.
Fire Island star Zane Phillips seemingly steps into another villainous role as Chad, the son of Madolyn, who describes Marco as a “bad influence” on his mother and the company, saying he will “yas queen” Glamorous into “bankruptcy”.
Thankfully, the trailer lives up to its gloriously queer title and premise with various limp-wrist scenes; Marco and Ben (Michael Hsu Rosen) serve choreo in a gay club and embrace their inner ‘Next Drag Superstar’ with several other characters including Chad and special guest stars Joel Kim Booster and Matt Rogers.
The official synopsis for Glamorous reveals that Marco “seems to be stuck in place until he lands a job” at the company: “It’s Marco’s first chance to figure out what he wants out of life, who he actually is, and what it really means for him to be queer.”
The ensemble cast includes Jade Payton (Dynasty), Ayesha Harris (Daisy Jones and the Six), Graham Parkhurst (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Diana Maria Riva (Gordita Chronicles), Lisa Gilroy (Jury Duty) and Mark Deklin (Good Fight). Canada’s Drag Race winner Priyanka also guest stars.
Payton plays Venetia, Madolyn’s “ambitious and chic” first assistant who becomes an ally to Marco, with Hsu at Ben, a graphic designer who is “inspired to stumble out of his comfort zone” after meeting Marco. Additionally, Harris plays a graphic designer called Brit while Parkhurst embodies a “self-proclaimed jock” named Parker who “symbolises unobtainable gay cis-male perfection”.
Chad, Madolyn’s son and the Director of Sales at Glamorous, is “caught in a never-ending quest to live up to his mother’s expectations.”
Glamorous premieres 22 June on Netflix – check out the 10 new stills and first trailer below.
