NHL reporter knew a proposal was coming. Her girlfriend still left her in tears.

Edmonton Oilers reporter Paige Martin kind of expected her girlfriend’s marriage proposal. She was still shocked and emotional.

Edmonton Oilers reporter Paige Martin knew she’d marry her girlfriend, Briana Wice, some day. Yet the surprise of Wice’s recent marriage proposal was still a surprise.

The couple, who’ve been together for six years, have talked about marriage and “build a family one day,” Martin told Outsports.

“We knew we wanted to get engaged this summer and picked out our engagement rings together.”

Still, the surprise and the execution of the proposal by Wice, Martin said, was perfect — a recreation of a spot Wice first told Martin she loved her.

It was even Martin’s birthday weekend — there was a thought in her mind that something special could go down. Wice knew exactly how to make the proposal memorable.

“The way she executed the proposal was 100,000,000 out of 10,” Martin said. That’s a lot of zeros.

“When I realized what was happening I was super emotional. I’m a cancer and a hopeless romantic. It felt like a dream come true and there were plenty of happy tears.”

Martin has worked with the Edmonton Oilers as a reporter and host for three years.

Paige Martin and Briana Wice to marry in the mountains

Martin told Outsports that they feel like Edmonton is their home, and they will be getting married in Alberta.

“All of our Ontario humans have been very clear that they’ll make the trip out to celebrate with us,” Martin said. “Our dream is to get married in the mountains, specifically Canmore.”

Nestled in the Alberta Rocky Mountains, “Canmore is a lively mountain town located just over an hour west of Calgary and a short drive from Banff National Park,” according to Tourism Canmore Kananaskis.

“Set in the Bow Valley along the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies, it’s known for its rugged peaks, turquoise rivers, and easy access to mountain recreation.”

It will be a gorgeous setting for the couple’s wedding.

“It has such a special place in our hearts and we’ve made core memories in that beautiful little town. It’s also where we found my ring!”
