Outsports’ short-form series ‘Ballin’ Out,’ featuring LGBTQ Team USA Women’s Wheelchair Basketball players, won an Emmy Award.

Miller played on the gold-medal-winning USA women’s wheelchair basketball team at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. She was an assistant coach with Team USA from 2022 to 2024.
Miller and Dittmann met on a dating app, with their conversation starting “because she had fishing pictures on her profile from Washington, the state I grew up in,” Miller said.
The two are physically very active with a “wonderful partnership” in the Dallas area, as Dittmann has introduced Miller to Crossfit and mountain biking.
“Katelyn has said that I’ve opened her eyes to the amazing world of adaptive sports and what it’s like living life with a physical disability.”
Desi Miller featured in Outsports’ Emmy Award-winning series
Desi Miller was featured in Outsports’ Emmy Award-winning online series “Ballin’ Out,” directed by Michiel Thomas, telling the story of LGBTQ players on the USA women’s wheelchair basketball team as they competed for a World Championship in Dubai.
Miller talks in the series about the anti-gay laws in Dubai that kept her from bringing Dittmann with her to the World Championships.
“I dissuaded and discouraged my partner from coming,” Miller says in ‘Ballin’ Out.’ “A handhold, a hug, anything, I was scared for that so i told them not to come.
“I would love for her to be at every tournament and for me to share the wins and losses with her.”
Team USA won bronze at those World Championships, a celebration delayed for the couple.
Now as these two women marry, they and their family are celebrating the marriage of this couple, and Outsports couldn’t be happier for them.
