WATCH: Jordan Firstman goes from washed up party boy to unexpected fatherhood in Club Kid

Firstman's directorial debut proved to be a hit at Cannes earlier this year. Now, it's heading to theaters.

Jordan Firstman has long been a scene-stealer on our favorite shows. But now, he’s gearing up for his big break.

The first official trailer for Club Kid, Firstman’s hotly anticipated directorial debut, just dropped. The movie tells the story of a man named Peter (Firstman), a “washed-up underground party promoter” whose life takes a turn when he is reunited with a 10-year-old son whom he never knew he fathered.

In the trailer, Peter navigates his newly discovered fatherhood as he and Arlo (Reggie Absolom) adorably go through their own unique version of milestones, which includes things like playing piano side-by-side, walking through the park and swearing, and explaining why a kid can’t wear certain Björk fan merch.

Later, Peter invites a group of queer friends over to his apartment and informs them that he has a biological son, which lands as a shock. While some of Peter’s friends seem supportive, others are concerned.

“Take him back, you’re gonna kill him,” says a character played by Cara Delevingne. A social worker played by Vicki Pepperdine also appears to disapprove of Peter’s “non-traditional” lifestyle. Additionally, fans can look forward to appearances from Diego Calva, Miss Benny, and Shygirl in the movie.

Over the past few years, Firstman has become known for his one-liners and hilarious quips in shows like English Teacher and I Love LA. He’s also gone viral with humorous tracks like “I Wanna See My Friends’ D*cks,” even releasing a comedic album called Secrets last year. But with his writing and directorial feature debut, Club Kid puts him at the forefront as a leading man. It also sees him taking on a softer, more serious role, depicting a nuanced side of LGBTQ+ life.

Audiences at the 79th Cannes Film Festival got to see Club Kid early. Following the screening, the movie received a seven-minute standing ovation, as well as several distribution offers, before ultimately being scooped up by A24.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in May, Firstman noted that he doesn’t want to slam the queer party scene, but rather tell a story of someone who has outgrown it and isn’t sure what’s next. While the story might be a bit out of the ordinary, it forces the main character to reevaluate his life choices.

“To me, what I’m saying about the party scene is that there is a moment for it, and you can outgrow it. Or, you can be right for it at the right time,” said Firstman. “It’s not a condemnation of people who do drugs or like to have fun. This is more about this man who has overstayed his welcome, or never known a different option.”

Club Kid hits theaters Friday, November 6. Check out the trailer below.
