Gay sportswriter Chris Hine lands dream job covering the 76ers
Chris Hine, one of the most successful out gay sports writers, is making a big move to Philadelphia to cover the 76ers.

Sports writer Chris Hine has announced he will be moving from Minnesota to Philadelphia, now covering the 76ers for the big local news publication, the Philadelphia Inquirer.
“I’m off to Philadelphia to cover the 76ers,” Hine shared on social media. “Should be a movie, as the kids say. Thank you to the Strib, the Timberwolves and Wolves fans for embracing me for 8+ years. Excited to move closer to home.”
Hine told Outsports a key factor in his move is to be closer to family.
“I’m making the move in part because my family is located two hours away in West Pittston, which is near Scranton,” Hine said. “I’ll get to see them more now after living in the Midwest for 20 years.”

Since graduating from Notre Dame in 2009, Hine has built a strong career as a staff writer covering mostly college sports and the Chicago Blackhawks for the Chicago Tribune. He then moved north, covering the Minnesota Timberwolves for eight seasons for the Minnesota Star Tribune.
While covering the Timberwolves, Hine wrote the autobiography of Anthony Edwards — “Ant.” Edwards has gotten himself into hot water with a couple problematic moments including the use of disparaging anti-gay language.

The 76ers have a history of embracing the LGBTQ community, hosting an annual Pride Night as well as welcoming out gay staffers like Zack Neiner and Lee Cary.
Out gay people like Hine in sports media do a ton of good, bringing them into personal conversations with professional athletes and doing it with knowledge, insight and professionalism. He has been named before on the Outsports Power 100.
