It's the end of an era.

Movie theaters just declared war on Nicole Kidman and the gays are taking it personally

This week has been more dramatic than an episode of “Scandal,” but luckily the gays are no strangers to drama. We thrive on it! We will take any excuse to recite the “lights went out in Georgia” monologue from “Designing Women,” come hell or high water.

But there are some forms of drama this community will not accept—specifically the drama that’s created by anyone messing with our right to enjoy a movie at our local AMC. As we all know, Nicole Kidman’s groundbreaking 2021 AMC ad made gay history, prompting claps and cheering from audiences who now show up at the movies just to hear the diva utter the phrase “heartbreak feels good in a place like this.”

How about we take this to the next level?

When AMC tried to shorten the ad to a 30 second spot back in December of 2021, the gays rioted, and there was even a Change.org petition to restore the full “Kidman cut.”

That was insult enough—but buckle up, because it gets worse. Apparently, the AMC ad that threw the first brick at Stonewall has been shortened yet again.

I know the ad has been shortened before but this time they went too far. #amctheaters #nicolekidman #nicolekidmanamc #TikTokBuzzContest ♬ original sound – Nirupam

Truncating this piece of gay history—in THIS economy? Are they TRYING to set the movement back 45 years? As reported by the hilarious TikToker Nirupam, this is a disturbing event that hits the gay community where we live, and we shall not let this stand.

“She didn’t even say ‘heartbreak feels good in a place like this,'” Nirupam says. Pearls across the country are being violently clutched over this news. How could they?!

Fans are feeling betrayed, bewildered, and disgusted over this change. “SHE DOESNT SAY DAZZLING IMAGES ON A SILVER SCREEN ANYMORE???” One commenter quickly noted. “This is BS.”

It is indeed. Another poster pointed out that they even cut the shot where Kidman’s stiletto pierces a rainy puddle on the ground, setting the scene for the entire commercial!

It’s almost like nothing is sacred.

“no bc my wife and I saw “the roses” last week and turned to each other in dismay at how short the nicole kidman amc ad was this time,” someone else explained. “They shortened my queen.”

Commenters are showing up for each other and supporting Nirupam in what is undoubtedly a very difficult time. As the world’s foremost Nicole Kidman expert and AMC ad first responder, they need the full weight of the community behind them at this moment.

It’s physics, it’s chemistry, it’s math, it’s biology, it’s the whole school. Even kyne approves this. #nicolekidman #spiritualsister ♬ original sound – Nirupam

As someone who has been on the ground since 2021 keeping us informed of every major piece of news concerning the AMC-Nicole Kidman partnership, Nirupam has truly shown up for their community in every possible way, from letting us know that AMC serves vegan chicken nuggets to nicknaming RuPaul’s Diwali-inspired look “RuPauli Chatterjee.” They’re a community icon and a true hero, and we won’t forget their brave service on this day.

We’ve lost so much to this edit, so don’t be afraid to hold your loved ones close and hold space for those deleted 45 seconds of footage. And never forget: Nicole Kidman walked into that puddle so that we could run into the nearest movie theater and see Weapons. They can never take that away from us.
