The US Gymnastics Championships are here, and athletes are competing for gold.
Outsports knows of only one athlete at these Championships who is is publicly out as LGBTQ — though we’re sure there must be others. While gymnastics has been long viewed as a sport more-welcoming to gay athletes, there still are few who are publicly out.
And yes, gay fans do seem to love the male gymnasts wearing tight uniforms and flexing their muscles.

The other athletes competing — like most of these we’re highlighting here — are simply showing our community and the world what it is to be an elite athlete at the height of their career, and performing routines impossible for most humans.

The US Gymnastics Championships have been a place for LGBTQ athlete Jackson Harrison to shine, particularly on the floor exercise.
Asher Hong
Asher Hong was part of the USA team that won a bronze team medal at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. He competes in gymnastics for Stanford University.
After Day 1 of the senior men at the US Gymnastics Championships, Hong was ranked first in the all-around, ahead of second-place Fuzzy Benas from the University of Oklahoma by a strong 4-point margin.
Colt Walker
Colt Walker, a teammate of Hong at Stanford, also did well on Thursday, finishing third in the all-around after Day 1. He finished first in the parallel bars with a score of 14.408.
Frederick Richard
Frederick Richard also won a bronze in the team event at the Paris Olympics. He was the bronze medalist for the all-around at the 2023 World Championships.
Finishing third after Day 1, he posted a couple Instagram messages that reflected some expected improvement from himself.
Jackson Harrison
Out LGBTQ gymnast Jackson Harrison was, as Outsports reported, one of the stars of the floor routine. While Harrison competed in only three of the six disciplines, they wowed in the floor exercise and drew praise.
Hezley Rivera
For the women, Hezley Rivera held onto the lead after Day 1. She was part of the gold medal team from the USA in women’s gymnastics at the Paris Summer Olympics.
Joscelyn Roberson
Joscelyn Roberson represents the University of Arkansas and represented herself well on Day 1, finishing second overall fractions of a point behind Rivera.
