Kick up your boots at these gay country hangouts
Maybe you'll spot Beyoncé in the corner.
Grab a whiskey, your finest plaid, and dancing shoes, we’re going to show you our favorite country western bars where you might find that lonesome cowboy you’ve been dreaming about since you first saw Brokeback Mountain.
Round-Up Saloon (Dallas, Texas)
Round-up is Dallas’ largest LGBTQ+ country and western dance club. Bring your cowboy boots!
Vaqueros Bar (Mexico City, Mexico)
During the weekdays expect to find mellow rancheros singing karaoke and drag queens lip synching to soulful ballads. Weekends are packed at Vaqueros, and the rowdy crowd dances to anything from Mexican pop, to reggaeton, and of course banda music.
George (Houston, Texas)
This hole-in-the-wall country watering hole is the place to sip beer, chow down on BBQ, and watch the game on flat-screen TVs with other queer sports lovers while the country-western music hums along in the background.
EL Ranchero Bar (Tijuana, Mexico)
El Ranchero is a popular cruise bar and restaurant with affordable drinks in the heart of Tijuana’s Plaza Santa Cecilia. The first floor plays reggaeton and Norteño music while the upstairs plays mainly pop music. Nightly drag and stripper shows make this one of the neighborhood’s steamy mainstays.
Pacos Ranch (Puerto Vallarta, Mexico)
Paco’s Ranch is a wild late-night drag and dance club where the tequila flows into the night. Interactive drag queens make this one of the more popular clubs in PV. Shows don’t start until midnight and go into the morning.
The Urban Cowboy ( Dallas, Texas)
The Urban Cowboy is an 18+ bar in Dallas with various parlor games to keep you entertained, ranging from darts to corn hole to billiards and even Jenga. Everything is truly bigger in Texas, including the drag queen’s bedazzled outfits.
Woodshed Lounge (Charlotte, North Carolina)
Woodshed Lounge is the cozy, ruggedly handsome lumberjack, down-to-earth cabin gay bar you never knew you needed. It’s a friendly neighborhood watering hole for a simple beer after work during the week and a frisky club to get freaky during special events like underwear contests and toga parties.
Vaqueros Antro Bar (Guadalajara, Mexico)
Vaqueros Antro Bar is where sexy Mexican cowboy couples dance to cumbia and live mariachi bands. Combined with over-the-top drag queens and folkloric performances, this bar is a gay treasure in Guadalajara.
5 Star Saloon (Reno, Nevada)
Sure 5 Star Downtown is more like your sassy gay country friend with a strong accent than a macho bar, but just the sheer fact it’s in Reno makes it Western by proxxy. You’re sure to have a great time whether it’s on the stripper pole or singing karaoke during one of the bar’s “all you can drink nights.”
Rainbow Cattle Company (Guerneville, CA)
Just two hours north of San Francisco, in the gay resort river town of Guerneville, you’ll find the Rainbow Cattle Company. On most days, you’ll find a dark, chilled-out saloon where locals drink whiskey and play pool, but during the summer months, when the town hosts a variety of queer events, it becomes a rowdy dive full of city queers looking to be taken home by a willing townie.
Venture-N (Tuscon, Arizona)
More Levi than leather, a friendly, non-pretentious crowd gathers here for drinking and conversation on the patio. Although Venture-N has traditionally been a men’s leather bar, it welcomes everyone through its doors with a smile and a good time.
