The Abbey owner, Tristan Schukraft, just bought a prestigious and much-loved Provincetown hotel
The Tryst group wants to become the world’s premier brand of luxury gay hotels.

Tryst Hospitality has announced its takeover over the iconic and well-loved Crown & Anchor in Provincetown.
Tryst is the small chain of boutique, gay-oriented hotels owned by Tristan Schukraft. He’s the owner of The Abbey in West Hollywood, a large chunk of the commercial space on Fire Island, and the PrEP-promoting telehealth company Mistr.

Schukraft’s Tryst Hospitality group already operates a luxury hotel in Mexico: The Tryst Puerto Vallarta. It launched in April. Sites for further hotels have been secured in Wilton Manors, Rio de Janeiro and Fire Island Pines. Schukraft is continuing to lock down other sites, with a wish to secure ten locations by the end of next year.

“Tristan’s investment ensures that The Crown & Anchor will continue to thrive as a landmark destination and preserve its decades-long legacy as the heart of Provincetown’s queer community,” says a press release from Tryst.
“As part of the acquisition, the property’s 17-room hotel will be reintroduced as The Tryst Provincetown, joining Tryst’s growing portfolio of LGBTQ+ destinations around the world.”
“Nowhere in the world like Provincetown”
The Crown & Anchor is more than just a hotel. It features six bars, a restaurant, multiple nightlife and performance venues, including The Paramount, The Crown Cabaret, and The Vault. Schukraft plans to retain all these elements.
“There’s nowhere in the world like Provincetown. It’s a place where LGBTQ+ people have come for decades to be seen, to create, to fall in love, and to live openly,” Schukraft said in a press statement.
“The Crown & Anchor is at the heart of that story, it’s been the stage, the dance floor, and Provincetown’s unofficial town square. Our goal is to honor that legacy while evolving it for the future, ensuring it remains a vibrant, inclusive home for generations to come.”
The paperwork for the sale is still being completed.
Paolo Martini, one of the Crown & Anchor’s current co-owners, expressed faith in Schukraft’s ownership of the venue.
“Tristan is the right person to carry it forward. He understands how important it is that Provincetown remains independent, creative, and proudly queer.
“With his vision and resources, The Crown will stay gay-owned, community-driven, and a beacon for generations to come.”

Closure and reopening
The Crown & Anchor will continue to operate under its current owners until New Year’s Eve. It will then take its seasonal closure until April, during which time it will also undergo remodelling and updates.
Although the hotel will be rebranded The Tryst Provincetown, the rest of the building will retain the ‘Crown & Anchor’ name.
The company says the venue will continue to participate in key Provincetown festivals, such as Women’s Week and Bears Week. It will also continue to book some of the cabaret favorites who have made the venue their home in Provincetown.
“Every Tryst property reflects the energy of its community,” Schukraft said. “I want to make sure The Crown & Anchor remains a place where everyone feels at home, whether they are performing, celebrating, or just watching the world go by on Commercial Street.”
